Winemaking

With one foot in the vineyard and one foot in the cellar for the past 25 years, Winemaker/Vineyard Manager Stephen Goff has been quietly crafting some of the valley’s most highly regarded wines. Joining the family back in 2008, Steve has been the only Winemaker and Vineyard Manager at Colene Clemens and has overseen the planting and development of over half of our 62-acres of vines.

Steve’s first job in Oregon was as the Assistant Winemaker at the estimable Beaux Freres Vineyards. Steve spent 6 years working side by side with Beaux Freres founding partner Michael G. Etzel in both the cellar and vineyard. A foundational experience that shaped his approach to both growing grapes and making Pinot Noir. After 6 vintages at Beaux Freres, Steve joined Colene Clemens in 2008 for their inaugural vintage and has remained in his role ever since.

Committed to low interventionist winemaking, Steve’s wines are amongst the most highly regarded in the valley and have received myriad accolades and 90+ reviews across the spectrum of publications. Steve remains on a very short list of Willamette Valley winemakers to have placed a wine in the Top 10 (#7) of Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines of the Year.
