Our Vineyard

The Colene Clemens Estate occupies a singular position in the northern Willamette Valley — 122 acres at the convergence of the Chehalem Mountains and Ribbon Ridge AVAs, where two of the Willamette Valley’s most distinct geological identities meet within a single estate.

The site’s complexity begins underfoot. Marine sedimentary soils from Ribbon Ridge’s Wellsdale series give way to volcanic basalt as elevation climbs from 350 to 650 feet — a continuous south-facing aspect that maximizes thermal accumulation across the full growing season. Few estates in the Valley command both soil types at this scale. The winery sits at the upper elevational limit of the property, where the Coast Range unfolds uninterrupted to the west — a vantage that reflects not just the view, but the estate’s exposure to the marine-influenced airflow that defines Willamette Valley’s cool-climate character.

The Colene Clemens Estate carries a history that predates its vines — originally a farmstead, orchard, and quarry from decades ago. The site is dry-farmed entirely, with low yields prioritized over volume to ensure only the highest quality fruit reaches the cellar.

Our farming is holistic in its approach, with careful stewardship of soil health at the center of every decision.

Organic. Biodynamic. Sustainable. Regenerative. We prefer to distill it down to something more fundamental: farming. At Colene Clemens, farming is our top priority. The health and vitality of our soils and vines remain our primary focus, because the old adage holds true: great wines are grown, not made.

Farming decisions are made block by block, row by row, tending to the individual needs of each plant across our 62-acre dry-farmed estate.

“It is this intensive, thoughtful approach that allows us to tend the vineyard with an open mind — making room for new ideas and possibilities while remaining grounded in proven practice. This fluid philosophy drives our never-ending pursuit to become better farmers, and to grow the finest wines this remarkable site has to offer.”
